seems the author is poo pooing the branding strategy that Ning has taken for their latest release. I’m sure Ning chose this path as to capitalize on the association with “Social Networking.”
We just released a similiar type of software to Ning, but our focus is on working with Nonprofits and good causes, where the word community makes much more sense for us as these communities already exist in real life, yet online “community” is sorta outdated and the term social network is more on the minds of society at large.
But I like the term Community and think Network seems a little less personal in our case. In Ning’s case, a community around people who like the same TV show seems more like a network than community.. but i can see both sides.
